Getting Started
If you are just beginning your home-buying adventure, a good place to start is by signing up for MLS (Multiple Listing Service). This free Property Finder service sends you daily e-mails with updated listings from your town and price range. You can also view full listing sheets, find properties on MapQuest, check school and community profiles and much more.
If you have already signed up and want instructions on how to search, you can jump ahead.
Sign-Up Instructions
When you Sign Up For MLS, a new browser window opens. We have provided step-by-step instructions to walk you through the process. Switch between the two browser windows to follow along.
Step 1
The sign up form opens. Fill in your contact information and click the Step 2 button.
Step 2
Select the property type(s) you are interested in and the form will bring up the appropriate preferences.
You can select up to five towns or villages for your search. Find the name on the left-hand list and double click to move it to the right-hand list, which is YOUR list. You can also click on the name and use the arrow keys to move the towns from left to right or back again.
Enter your preferences for price, lot size, number of bedrooms, etc. We recommend you leave all the style options checked as this prevents you from missing your perfect house just because it was not labeled the same way you would describe it. When you are done, click the submit button.
Step 3
A thank you message appears. You will shortly receive a Welcome e-mail that will contain your password. The e-mail will also contain links to listings based on your search criteria.
You can also choose to download MLS Property Messenger to your desktop. This program works with Windows OS only (98, ME, NT3.0, 2000, XP and 2003).
Search Instructions
When you wish to search again, visit this web site and use the Search MLS link to begin (a new browser window will open). Below we have provided some instructions to make your search easier.
